Sometimes, on a road trip, you have to step back and slow down a little. Today was one of those days. After breakfast, we drove back into Cluny. Taking advantage of the many photo opportunities presented to us, we walked for a few hours and took in the fascinating buildings and absorbed the laidback French atmosphere. A little cooler today, as there was more cloud cover, we dined at The Cafe de Paris before making our way back to our accommodation, but only after stocking up at the local Carrefour for some food for the evening and the essential bottles of Pelforth Brune.

We spent the late afternoon and evening relaxing in the gardens. I did some writing while Melanie read her book, whilst also playing with the resident kitten who seemed to be interested and amused by anything and everything. To others, it may have looked as if we were spending a lot of time ignoring each other on our phones, but in reality, we were playing word games and cribbage together. It’s one of our favourite pastimes. That, and a board game that we’d brought. An easy, slow day, in preparation for another longish journey tomorrow to Avignon. Now that will be interesting. I went there back in the early 1980s and had a rather unusual experience…
